Doctor visit for Nathaniel today

Well, I’m up for the Mother of the Year award again today, but Nathaniel is a first-timer on the background story.  See, I was trying to get Timothy to leave Nathaniel’s room, so I asked him to go and he FINALLY walked out the door.  I was holding Nathaniel over my shoulder, and slowly closed the door, only to realize it would not close all the way.  I suddenly had this sickening feeling in my stomach–Nathaniel had grabbed the back of the door!  He started screaming and I laid him down and checked his hand.  It was red, and there was a small abrasion on the back of one finger.  I tried to calm him, then Patrick returned from an errand and held him, and he finally calmed down.  We called the nurse line at our pediatrician’s office, and they said that even though it didn’t look too bad, they wanted to have an x-ray of it since it was the back part of the door and that can be more serious.

Patrick took him in to see a PA at the office, and thankfully, his x-rays came back normal.  He’s really doing just fine, and his hand doesn’t look bad, there’s just a red mark across three of his fingers.  Oh, and Patrick ran into our regular pediatrician while he was there and she took a look at him in passing and figured that since he was smiling and giggling at her that he was probably just fine…and he is!

So glad the x-rys came back normal and Nathaniel’s just fine. It’s so scary when little ones are hurt. Great work getting him seen to!

Yeah, so sorry to hear it, but it happens, B fell off the kitchen counter within our first few days in the new house, luckly some boxes broke his fall, but I felt horrible. You’re a great mom and it will be ok, just part of the ride. Glad it all worked out!

Thanks for the kind comments. It’s impossible to keep these things from happening 100% of the time, but I still felt awful when he was screaming in pain. Later, I was comforted by knowing that he was all right, and that he had no reason to doubt our love for him even when an accident happened.
